What is Polygon (POL)?
In 2024, Polygon began transitioning its native token from MATIC to POL as part of the broader Polygon 2.0 upgrade.
Polygon (formerly known as Matic Network) is a protocol for developing and connecting Ethereum-compatible blockchain networks. It is a layer 2 (L2) scaling solution designed to improve the overall adoption of the Ethereum blockchain.
Although Ethereum now operates on a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, it still faces challenges such as network congestion and high gas fees during periods of heavy activity.
