What is Polygon?
Polygon (formerly known as Matic Network) is a protocol for developing and connecting Ethereum-compatible blockchain networks. It is a layer 2 (L2) scaling solution designed to improve the overall adoption of the Ethereum blockchain. Polygon’s scaling solution supports a complete multi-chain ecosystem, ensuring that there is interoperability amongst one another and the Ethereum network.
With Ethereums current proof-of-work consensus protocol, the network can suffer from congestion, slow transaction speeds and low throughput. This can often lead to high gas fees (transaction fees) for users. Polygon has swiftly become a prominent feature amongst numerous DeFi protocols with multi-platform adoption continuing each day. Dampening such network effects, Ethereum users seeking a fluid DeFi experience (i.e low fees and fast transaction times) are adopting Polygon.
